Unit 3.1 - Coding
This term the children have continued to extend their understanding of basic coding including using variables and timers.
Unit 3.4 - Touch Typing
The children have done really well in this unit and enjoyed it immensely! the unit is designed to familiarise children with the computer keyboard the uses of all its keys but also to quicken their typing skills so that are confident IT users, able to produce more accurate work. It has created a lot of fun, friendly competition!
They have also continued to use their computing skills across the curriculum within their Adventures to produce fact sheets, leaflets and posters. Here is some of their great work!
This half term the children's Adventure takes place in Ancient Egypt.
They had lots of fun making Mash Cams of themselves as Tutankhamun and writing their names in hieroglyphics.
In their Computing lessons the children will be building on the skills they have previously learnt using Spreadsheets and presenting data in a variety of ways.
They will learn how to use formulae, timers and random number/spin features in their spreadsheets. they will also learn how to create and interpret a table of data and then present the data in different types of charts and graphs.
In French the children were able to put their computing skills to great use. They used 2Connect to create Mind Maps to show what they have learnt about 'les animaux'.
This half term the children have extended their spreadsheet skills to include creating a calculating machine using variables. They had to create calculations, solve them and then check if they were correct.
They have also been learning about Simulations. They learnt that simulations enable us to experience real life situations which may be too dangerous, too expensive, too fast or slow.
They then went on to experience a simulation in which they were part of a space rescue mission, saving fellow astronauts who had become stranded on an unexplored planet Elpmis.
They had to work in teams, accessing emails and videos to determine the conditions that they were likely to encounter, and therefore which equipment they would need. They really enjoyed this and worked very well together.
In their Adventure the children have been learning about mountains and produced some super Mountain Fact Files.
