PE Policy

Introduction

At Westwood children will receive 2 hours of curriculum PE each week. The delivery of Physical Education will be broken down into 2 areas – Physical Education and Physical Activity. Physical Education will be taught one lesson a week by the school PE specialist. Physical Activity will be taught one lesson a week by the class teacher.

 

Curriculum Aims

To promote a love of PE across school by providing a broad and balanced curriculum.

 

To develop a physical literacy in children that provides them the skillset for lifelong participation.

 

To develop a physical activity habit

 

To develop children holistically into well rounded young people.

 

Assessment

Children are assessed against the aims of our PE curriculum

 

To promote a love of PE across school by providing a broad and balanced curriculum.

Children are asked termly for their perception of PE with a score of 5-1. (5 Love PE, 4 Like PE, 3 PE is OK, Dislike PE, Hate PE).

 

To develop a physical literacy in children that provides them the skillset for lifelong participation.

Students checked against key performance indicators of a Physically Literate child.

 

To develop a physical activity habit

Children physical activity monitored through tracking and extra-curricular registers. Presented in forms of data and case studies of specific children and groups of children.

 

To develop children holistically into well rounded young people.

Children work towards a head, heart and hands learning objective each lesson promoting holistic development.

 

 

PE Kit

Children are expected to bring PE kit into school on Monday and take home on Friday as a minimum.

 

A full PE kit consists of:

Plain black shorts/Jogging bottoms

Plain White T-Shirt

A pair of trainers so children can safely access outdoor PE

Optional plain black jumper/hoodie

 

If children do not have PE kit for a lesson. Their names need to be emailed to school office who will send our PE kit letter home to parents.
