Where is the Dream, Believe, Achieve?
Where is the Dream, Believe, Achieve?
At Westwood, our core values of ‘Dream, Believe, Achieve’ are evident across the curriculum. Our Geography curriculum provides children with the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge, which can support them in their lives beyond primary school. It helps them to understand their local community, as well as the wider world around them.
Dream
- Children are shown how Geography is important in everyday life
- Children experience Geography through fieldwork, directly demonstrating to them how Geography links to different jobs and careers
- Children are enthusiastic about receiving the ‘Where in the World?’ certificate each half term
Believe
- Children learn to persevere in tricky topics through partner work, group tasks and whole class activities
- Children are encouraged to give everything a go, even if they are unsure, so they aren’t afraid to share their ideas
- Children are taught that it is okay to make mistakes and are encouraged to develop resilience
- If children do find Geography challenging, teachers are well-equipped with strategies to adapt their teaching so every child is encouraged to believe in themselves
Achieve
- Children have chances to feel success in Geography through celebration assemblies, where Geography can be chosen for good work
- Children can experience achievement in Geography through the half-termly ‘Where in the World?’ certificate awarded in each class
Children leave Westwood as competent and confident geographers, who are fully equipped to continue their learning at high school and beyond.
