Modern Foreign Languages
Bienvenidos al Español en Westwood!
Welcome to Spanish at Westwood!. We are now in our second year of teaching Spanish across the school and it has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm our children have for learning a new language.
Spanish is the main language taught in many of our local secondary schools, so we have chosen it as the language our pupils will learn during their time at Westwood. Through learning Spanish, children develop their confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing while also discovering more about the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries.
Children in Key Stage 2 take part in weekly Spanish lessons where they learn through songs, games, speaking activities and interactive tasks. We use the Primary Languages Network scheme to support our teaching. This provides engaging lessons and allows pupils to hear authentic pronunciation from native Spanish speakers. On this page, you will find examples of the work children are doing across school!
Alongside our Spanish curriculum, we also enjoy exploring other languages through short taster sessions that link to our class adventures and wider learning about the world.
At Westwood we believe that learning a language helps children to become curious, confident communicators who are interested in other cultures and the wider world.
