Welcome back!! We hope you all had a relaxing and recharging half term and are ready to go again with our new adventure! We're over halfway through the year now which is mad - it's going so quick! I'm very excited to get going with our new adventure and I have everything crossed that we'll be able to get back into school at some point this half term to complete this adventure altogether in school!

As ever, any questions or you need anything, you know how to get hold of me and Mrs Wilson - mulberry@westwoodprimaryschool.org and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!

Guided Reading - live on Teams at 10.30am

Today, we're going to start thinking about our new adventure text - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! In the live lesson, we'll look at the blurb and front cover together and then I'd like you to get inquisitive and use some of your thinking skills. Using the clues on the blurb and the front cover, what do you know about the text, what do you think you know about the text and what do you wonder about the text (what do you want to know). I have done an example of each for you on the sheet below, you guys need to come up with at least 3 more for each category.

Every day, Charlie Bucket walks past Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory, with its heavenly smells wafting out. When the eccentric chocolatier Mr Willy Wonka announces that there are five Golden Tickets to be won, and the prize is a visit to his wonderful factory itself, children everywhere rush to buy his products - but Charlie's family are very poor and can only afford to buy him one bar of Wonka's chocolate each year on his birthday.
PLEASE READ UP TO CHAPTER 5 BY TOMORROW

Adventure - anytime

We're going to start by thinking about the character of Charlie. Charlie is originally from Scotland - so today we're going to do a geography lesson to find out a little bit more about the country Charlie comes from. Go through the PowerPoint below which has lots of information about Scotland's location, the human features and the physical features of the country. Then, look at the word document which has some questions for you to have a go at first. Then, there are 4 activities on the sheet. Choose 1 of these activities and have a go at this one!

Handwriting and spelling - anytime

Click the link below to go to today's daily handwriting and spelling lesson.

Writing - live on Teams at 1pm

We're going to complete a short edit lesson today. I have marked Roald Dahl's work and I need your help to think about why I have highlighted certain elements of his work. I have marked a section of chapter 1 and I've done lots of yellow highlighting. Read the paragraph and see where I have highlighted yellow. I need you to decide WHY I highlighted that thing yellow. Think about all the reasons you get yellow in school: capital letters, punctuation, conjunctions, interesting words. Choose 5 of the parts I have highlighted and explain why I have highlighted them. We will also do an example together on the live lesson.

Maths - live on Teams at 9.15am

This half term, we're focussing on multiplication tables and really smashing our 5s, 3s, 4s and 8s. We're going to begin today by reminding ourselves what multiplication is and why we use it. In the live lesson, we'll look at how we can turn pictorial representations into number sentences, then you guys need to have a practice at doing that on the workbook pages below.

Everyday this week, children in my group need to complete a daily times table test. Please see the word document below to explain how to access and set up the test. Please send me your child's score alongside their maths work each day!
