The Bible doesn’t just contain stories – there are laws, letters, history books, family trees, wise sayings, prophecies, poems and even songs.

The book of Psalms in the Old Testament contains 150 poems, written as songs.

Take a look at part of Psalm 33:

Praise the LORD with the harp;

make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.

Sing to him a new song;

play skilfully, and shout for joy.

Psalm 33:2-3

The book of Proverbs in the Old Testament contains wise sayings, some of which people still use today.

Do not accuse anyone for no reason when they have done you no harm. (Proverbs 3:30)

Through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. (Proverbs 9:11)

The Old Testament contains many laws, whilst the New Testament contains many letters written to churches and groups of Christians.

Take a look at this law:
You shall not steal.  (Exodus 20:15)

and this letter:

Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. (Ephesians 4:28)
