Art-Where is the Dream, Believe, Achieve?

Art at Westwood

Where is the Dream, Believe, Achieve?

Dream

(aspirations, experiences, ambition, develop own passions and interests, drive and motivation)

  • Children are exposed to a range of well thought out artists, who spark their own artistic ideas and inspire them within their own artwork.
  • Teachers allow children the freedom to be expressive within their work and develop their skills with an understanding of how powerful art can be.
  • Artists that work alongside our children not only bring art to life but make them understand that becoming an artist could be a very possible and tangible career as long as they continue to develop a drive, motivation and passion for the subject.
  • Through our curriculum children are able to develop a passion and interest for art that may be unlocked for the first time, and they are allowed to articulate their opinions on this freely.
  • Through the artists chosen both famous and unknown/currently working the possibility of art as a life-long ambition/hobby is instilled.

Believe

(Pride, self-belief, risk takers, feel valued and respected)

  • Through our curriculum pupils learn to persevere when learning a new skill or style.
  • Pupils build resilience and have high aspirations for their work and this in turn builds self-esteem.
  • Art at Westwood encourages children to create art with a free and exploratory approach thus creating a sense of freedom and enjoyment which allows them to be proud of the work they produce.
  • Through a constant art dialogue and the profile of art across school, children are proud to be passionate about and enjoy art.
  • Pupils learn to appraise art of others and their own in a respectful and considered way. They are able to confidently express their own opinions and beliefs knowing they are valued and also accept those of others.

Achieve

(responsible, resilient, feel success memorable learning, embrace challenge, lifelong learners )

  • Each pupil at Westwood travels along their own art journey not just celebrating their own final pieces of artwork but the skills they have developed along the way.
  • Pupils leave Westwood with their own well-formed opinions based on their knowledge and artists skills, artists and work covered.
  • Pupils understand the importance of art in our current society and also how time and place has influenced art.

Pupils leave Westwood no longer afraid of art or their artistic ability but embrace the joy of art and the skills and knowledge they have deepened while at Westwood.
