Admissions
Places in our Nursery are allocated according to availability in the term after a child’s third birthday. Parents wishing their child to attend our nursery should fill in an application form at the school office or you can click the link below to complete the application online, the child will then be added to the waiting list. If you have recently moved into the area and require a place in nursery please contact the school office to enquire about the availability of places.
If you are new to the area or are looking to transfer from another school, applications should be made on the Leeds application portal at www.leeds.gov.uk/moveschools where parents/carers can submit an online in-year application to Leeds City Council. They will then send the application on to all the school(s) applied for at the same time. Each school will decide whether they can offer a place and contact the applicant with their decision.
If the school refuse to offer a place, the school will confirm this in writing to you, explaining the reasons, and that you have the right of appeal. Schools must give you a written decision within 15 school days.
Your child will be added to a school’s waiting list automatically for that school year. Where any vacancy arises, places will be offered from the waiting list based on the oversubscription criteria within this policy.
At whatever stage your child starts school with us here at Westwood we will ensure they settle in as quickly and happily as possible. You will be contacted in good time prior to your child’s start date and arrangements will be made for you and your child to visit to the school, have a meeting with the head and class teacher and for all relevant information to be passed onto you.
Waiting List
If you have a child on our waiting list and a place becomes available we will contact you to offer a place. If no contact has been made, this would mean a place has not become available. The waiting lists for all our Year groups opens every September on the first day of each academic year and closes on 31st August. If you have a child who is still on our waiting list at the end of the academic year and would like them re-adding to the waiting list when the new year begins, you must re-apply.
Deadlines for Applying for a Reception Place 2024
Children born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020 are due to start primary school in September 2024. You can apply from 1 November 2023. The deadline to apply is 15 January 2024. We recommend choosing five schools to give your child the best chance of getting a place at a school you prefer. Going to a school's nursery does not guarantee your child a place at that school. We offer primary school places on 16 April 2024 (offer day). If you applied through our online application portal we'll email you with your child's offer. We'll send the email during the working day. If you applied in any other way, you'll receive an offer letter to your registered home address (a few days after offer day).
