Spring 2: What Happens in Wonderland?

We have arrived in Wonderland and we are surrounded by mysterious objects, on the ground is a jar of mushrooms with a tag saying “eat me!”… I wonder what will happen if we eat them…

Natasha Bedingfield - Pocket full of Sunshine Lyrics

lyrics :)[Interlude]I got a pocket,got a pocket full of sunshineI've got a love and I know that it's all mineoh.oh,ohDo what you want,but you're never gonna ...

We learnt about Shrove Tuesday and lent, before enjoying a delicious pancake.

In PSHE, we learnt about how to resolve issues that arise in friendships. We discussed the importance of being a good friend and freeze framed different scenarios, discussing how we deal with difficult situations.

We had a visit from a very naughty white rabbit. He left a jar of mushrooms that said “eat me!” We debated for a long time whether or not we should eat them. Miss Cunningham decided to try herself and suddenly she shrank! Have a look at us having a taste below.

Our writing hook this week was planting our own seeds ready to grow some cress in Science. We will be putting our pots in different locations, changing different variables.

Have a look at our final instructions for how to grow a cress plant. We wrote predictions about which plant will grow the best in different conditions - we changed the light and water to see what happens.

We have been tracking the weather in Chestnut class and have written our own predictions for the next week. We are looking forward to longer, sunnier days!

This week we received a letter from the Queen of Hearts along with a gift of duckling eggs! We accepted the gift and we can’t wait to watch the ducklings hatch and grow.

In Dt, we were testing different smoothie flavours. We made predictions and then tested the different fruit combinations before picking our favourite. The children came up with their own adjectives to describe the flavour, texture, smell and colour.

This week we used the feather from our ducklings and the leaves from our cress in a magnificent potion which will make us small again. The children will be writing adverts to persuade people to buy our potion in Wonderland!

In RE, we learnt all about Palm Sunday and performed our own Palm Sunday parade when Jesus entered Jerusalem. The children created their own palms and signs to wave.

The children have been observing their cress growing over the last 3 weeks. The children have found out that light makes leaves green and no light makes leaves yellow. The most successful cress plant was the plant that had light and water. The children’s predictions were correct.

Today we had a mad hatter’s tea party for our final writing this half term. Tomorrow the children will be writing a setting description of the occasion!
