Autumn 1

Week 3:

This week we have been learning about patterns. We have looked at identifying different types of patterns and where we might find them, for example on a sock. We then furthered our knowledge of pattern and learnt how to continue and create our own repeating pattern. We did this inside and outside using a range of every day objects. An example of this was leaf, stick, leaf, stick, leaf, stick.

Week 4:

This week we are learning how to identify and sort objects into sets. We are looking at sorting a variety of objects by size, colour and shape. After sorting them, we have compared the amounts in our sets to see which sets have more and which sets have fewer. More and fewer have been some key vocabulary that we have been using this week within our learning. See if you can challenge us to use it at home too!

Week 5:

This week we are learning about length and height. We are focussing upon being able to use the vocabulary longer, shorter and taller instead of using the words big and small.

We then began looking at capacity and what the word capacity actually means. We then explored capacity in the different areas of provision using the new words we had learnt

Week 6:

This week we have been investigating weight with the balance scales. We can now use the language heavy and light confidently when comparing the weight of two objects and have been looking at what happens when two objects weigh the same (the scales balance!)

Week 7:

This week we began learning about numbers. We have looked very closely at number one and how important it is. We have explored using objects to sort, share and count by one. We know that we always start our counting with number one!

Week 8:

This week we are learning all about number two! We have used number blocks to help us see that one more than one is two and that number two always following number one in the sequence of counting! We are now exploring number two further by sorting, sharing, matching and counting out two. We have also been understanding that when we add one more the quantity changes and we get a bigger amount.
