History Assemblies
Autumn 1 - Black History Month
Our first history assembly of the year focussed on Black History Month. We focussed on the life and achievements of Rosa Parks. Throughout the week during Time to Talks with their teacher, children will be finding out more about significant black individuals who changed history.

Autumn 2 - Remembrance
In November, Westwood took time to remember. We paused to remember all of those who sacrificed their tomorrow for our today. We held a remembrance assembly at the beginning of the week focussing on symbols of remembrance and why we remember. Throughout the week, children then listened to various poems during Novel Time and some children were involved in making our remembrance video (see History Events page for our video).

Spring 1 - Significant Individuals
For our assembly in January, we thought about significant people throughout history. We talked about why history is important and then found out information about 5 different people. We then placed these on a timeline and the children helped by sharing facts about their person.

Spring 2 - King Charles III Coronation
With the help of the amazing children who joined us for Coronation Club, our Spring assembly focussed on symbols of the coronation. The members of the club presented their designs before we recreated a coronation, making Joshua King of Westwood!

Summer 1 - Team Westwood through the ages
Our summer assembly looked at some pictures of staff from their past. The children worked out which member of staff it was before ordering it on a timeline. We then looked at other events which took place at similar times. Then, taking into account that 50cm would represent a year, we showed the real scale of the timeline - all of which was in living memory, so to get back to the Stone Age we would have had to go over 1 million metres!
Can you guess who is who?
Summer 2 - This is Leeds
To launch our first ever local history week, Miss Brown hosted our Heritage Week assembly where we looked at places in Leeds in the past and guessed what they were now. This will launch a whole fortnight of activities, trips and events focusing on Middleton, Leeds and Yorkshire.
