Maths

The children are working out the difference between 2 amounts by taking the smallest amount away from the biggest. For example, to find the difference between 15 and 4 you would take 4 away from 15 equating to 11 (15-4=12). This can then be represented by a bar model.

On page 2, the children must show the number sentences using a bar model as practiced in the previous 2 lessons. Once they have found the difference by subtracting, they must put the whole (largest number) on top, and the 2 parts underneath. The 2 parts are added together to make the whole. The bar model is another way of representing a part/part/whole.

Science

I would like you to crate a habitat for Peach the Starfish. Having learnt all about starfish this week, we know they like to be in the sand and among rocks. They are usually found on the seadbed and among coral as they can hide from predators. They eat small fish, clams and oysters so it is important they aren't too far away from other sealife.

You could design your starfish habitat by drawing or you could create a shoebox habitat and construct one yourself. I would love to see all your creative designs so make sure you send them to cherry@westwoodprimaryschool.org
