Data Handling

KS1

In KS1 our children begin to learn how to group and sort items using a range of criteria.

The children then transfer these skills into collecting simple data which they learn how to display in a variety of ways.

Here our Year 1 children were rolling dice and recording their results. They then transferred the data they had collected onto a pictogram and analysed the results.

Here our Year 2 children used tally charts to collect data on Chestnut's favourite fruits and created pictograms using their data.

Here they are learning  how to construct Binary Trees.

LKS2

In LKS2 the children are introduced to the 2Question tool which enables them to create more complex branching (binary) databases to identify an object by answering a series of simple questions and yes/no questions.

UKS2

In UKS2 the children learn about Databases and how they enable us to store and easily retrieve information on a variety of subjects. They begin by accessing an existing Database and then move on to collaborate as a class to create a Class Database.

Here they had to access an Alien Database, find the answers to a set of questions and then complete a quiz using the information they had retrieved.

Then they learn how retrieved Data can be displayed in a variety of ways.
