Phonics
In the summer, Blossom class (Year 1 and the Year 2's who did not meet the standard last year) will take a phonics screening, where we can see how many sounds they have learnt over the year. The screening is made up of real and fake words, all containing sounds that we have learnt. Children will have to break down the word and sound it out correctly. For example, if the word was 'can' they would need to sound it out c a n can.
The children will have a phonics lesson 4 times a week but it would be great if their learning could be cemented at home with the help from family and friends.
Below is lots of fun games that children can do on their own or with support. There is also practise phonics screenings from previous years and helpful websites for parents.

To begin with we learn a sound a day. We use pure sounds so that your child will be able to blend the sounds into words more easily.
