Money

Children begin learning about money in Year One by learning to recognise different notes and coins.

Then in Year Two, children learn to count notes and coins and write amounts of money. They are able to compare and exchange amounts of money as well as calculate total amounts and change.

In Year Three, children continue naming and showing different amounts of money. They develop their ability to add and subtract money as well as calculating change.

When they reach Year Four, children build on their knowledge of money by rounding and estimating amounts of money.

Although Money is not taught discretely in Year Five and Six, children apply their previous knowledge in areas such as fractions, data handling and using the four operations.
