Spring 1

Week 1

This week we have been looking at zero, we have been looking at the numeral, what zero means and how to represent it.

 

We have also been learning to understand the vocabulary of 'more' and 'fewer' and trying to use this in our play independently.

Week 2

This week we have been revisiting and building on our work of weight and capacity from earlier in the year. We have been revisiting the language of weight and capacity and addressing misconceptions. The children thought that size always meant something was heavy and light. This week we have discovered that bigger objects can be lighter than smaller objects.

 

We were also surprised to find out that it wasn't always the tallest containers that held the most and that we needed to look at the width of the containers too! The children had lots of fun exploring weight and capacity this week and making their own discoveries.

Lyra then investigated this by pouring the rice directly from the taller container to the shorter one. She was shocked to realise that the shorter and wider container could hold more. She was then more determined than ever to investigate further with other containers.

Week 3

This week we are focusing on number 6. We have looked at the numeral 6, how to represent 6, counting out 6 objects onto a tens frame, the composition of 6 and one more and one less than 6.

Week 4

This week we are focusing on number 7. We have looked at the numeral 7, how to represent 7, counting out 7 objects from a larger group onto a tens frame, the composition of 7 and one more and one less than 7.

Week 5

This we were focusing on number 8. We looked at all things number 8. We counted out 8 from a larger group, we represented 8, we looked at the composition of 8 using different concrete resources to support us.

Week 6

This week we are securing our knowledge of numbers 6,7 & 8. We are comparing them and digging deeper. We have also looked at odd and even numbers and combining 2 groups and finding a total.

Week 7

This week we have been looking at doubling. We have looked at how to do this and to remember to double a number we need to add the same number too it.
