Autumn 1

Week 3:

This week we are learning how to identify, match and sort objects into sets. Part of this learning, has included us being able to vocalise and explain how we know that objects match and the way in which we have sorted them into sets. We have been looking at sorting a variety of objects by size, colour and shape.

Week 4:

This week we are continuing to develop our sorting skills and explain our ideas. However we are now extending this, so, after sorting them, we are comparing the amounts in our sets to see which sets have more and which sets have fewer objects. More and fewer have been some key vocabulary that we have been using this week within our learning. See if you can challenge us to use it at home too!

Week 5:

This week we are talking about size and measure. We have become confident using the words big and small to describe the size of objects and have been introduced to two new words mass and capacity. We have explored this through provision by comparing the weight of objects and how much containers can hold.

Week 6:

This week we are learning about patterns. We have looked at identifying different types of patterns and where we might find them, for example on a sock. We then furthered our knowledge of pattern and learnt how to continue and create our own repeating pattern. We did this inside and outside using a range of every day objects. An example of this was red brick, yellow brick, red brick, yellow brick.

Week 7:

This week we have started learning about numbers. We have looked very closely at number one and how important it is. We have explored using objects to sort, share and count by one. We know that we always start our counting with number one!
