Spring 1: Rocking All Over the World

Writing

Sycamore had a very exciting first morning back, when Mr Mckittrick came into our classroom saying he had seen something colourful fly pass his window heading towards the playground. All the children from Willow and Sycamore headed down to the playground to investigate what had been seen. The children came out to a “hot air balloon” that had fallen into the playground with a letter inside which was from Barnaby Miles. The children went around the playground to find clues, such as a camera, a compass, a screenshot of BBC1 program, a survival kit, a postcard of New York, binoculars and a world map. The children used to clues and discussed about what they found and how it could be linked to the hot air balloon and Barnaby Miles.

RE

In RE this week, Sycamore have learnt about what happened during Holy Week. The children learnt about Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We all discussed about what it symbolises' in Christianity.

Science

In Science this half term, Sycamore are learning about electricity. Today, Sycamore started off by discussing what they already knew about electricity. In our groups they did an activity by placing photos of appliances they thought were non-electrical and electrical. After, the children designed a safety poster about the importance of electricity.

This week in Geography, Sycamore have been learning about the Equator and which countries are located on there. The children have also been learning about the lines of Longitude and Latitude and how they are measured.

Guided Reading

In Guided reading this half term, Sycamore is reading “The Boy in the Dress” by David Walliams. So far in lessons the children have been making connections about why the book is called The Boy in the Dress and what clues are in the front cover and blurb to help them. The children also read a section in the book and drew a picture about what they imagined it would look like and spoke about there emotions.

PE

Today in PE, Sycamore had so much fun doing Parkour. They used a lot of different skills such as jumping, climbing and rolling on different equipment throughout the hall. All the children ended the lesson by doing an obstacle course using all the skills they had used.

Writing

In Writing, Sycamore have been writing a Diary Entry about them finding a hot air balloon in the playground on there first day back to school after the summer holidays. The children found a letter from Barnaby Milles telling them to look after his hot air balloon and he will come to collect it soon. The children used amazing vocabulary and there knowledge of the event to really catch the readers eye.
