Where in the world/Geoguessr

Where in the world and the use of the resource 'Geoguessr' ensures Geography is taught weekly throughout the year. This means when Geography is not the main topic, children are still talking and enquiring about the world around them. From Autumn 1 - Spring 1, children will complete the weekly 'Where in the worlds'  where they need to locate countries around the world, linked to their current Geography topic. Children are presented with an outline image of a country and are encouraged to use atlases, maps and globes to locate the country. Clues are given to support revisiting key geographical vocabulary and support children in thinking about where countries are in relation to their continent, oceans and to the UK. Children learn interesting facts about the country and also compare the scale of the country to the UK.

From Spring 2 onwards, children will use the resource 'Geoguessr' to try and locate the given place from googlemaps. Children will need to use their inference skills to look for clues on where the location could be - e.g. is it rural/built up area?

There will be a focus on oracy during these sessions where children are encouraged to talk about their observations.
