Transition into Reception
Starting School
Leaving a pre-school setting, whether that was at a nursery or at home, behind and entering Reception is a big step for children, but at Westwood Primary School we put a lot in place to make this transition as smooth as we can to ensure the new experience of school is a positive one.
Before your child starts school we will:
-Visit your child in their current nursery, at home or in our nursery classroom;
-Invite all children to a transition day where they can meet other children and staff;
-Invite all parents and carers to a welcome meeting;
-Know your child's interests and needs;
-Begin forming relationships with each family.
-arrange a staggered start to school giving children time to make friends with other children.
